Morgen Houlis
Principal
Morgen is known for her knack for making tax codes and strategies clear and understandable. An expert in cost segregation studies and fixed and capitalized asset concepts, Morgen is also passionate about trust administration and estate, gift and trust taxation. “I like to be a resource to help people navigate the process more easily when they are feeling personal loss, and I want to make it as uncomplicated as possible” she says.
While Morgen was hired by Glenn Burdette straight from Cal Poly after working her way through college as a bookkeeper, she is no stranger to moving around. As the daughter of a Navy pilot, she lived in 27 different homes before heading off to University. She grew up raising animals and showing horses that she trained herself and one of her interesting experiences as a youth was the role of “hot walker,” someone who cools down race horses at the track at Liberty Bell Park Racetrack in Philadelphia, a track that once attracted crowds of up to 30,000.
A real “do it yourselfer,” Morgen may be found up to her elbows in gardening, painting, cooking and stone and tile work projects. “I’ve learned no matter what happens in life that we have to get back on that horse and keep going. One of my goals is to show anyone that I work with that we really can do anything that we set out minds to if we work hard and smart and never give up.”
Morgen enjoys wine tasting throughout California and exploring all of the art and gardens that Central and Southern California have to offer and still takes any opportunity to get back on a horse for a couple of hours.
An avid gardener and aesthete, Morgen has served as Treasurer for the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden and currently serves as the Treasurer for the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center, SLO.
Morgen has worked for regional firms in upstate New York and Wyoming.
